China provides 300,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Laos
A plane carrying 300,000 doses of Sinovac Biotech’s COVID-19 vaccine and over 300,000 syringes arrived in Vientiane yesterday’s morning.
The vaccine, the second batch of its kind to be provided as a donation package by the Chinese government to the Lao PDR, will be given to risk groups including medical workers, border officials and those working at quarantine stations across the country.
A handover for the vaccines was held at the Ministry of Health in Vientiane between Chinese Ambassador to the Lao PDR Jiang Zaidong and Vice President Phankham Viphavanh in the presence of officials of relevant offices of the two countries.
The Chinese government previously provided 2,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to the Lao PDR.
“The Chinese government is very happy to share its vaccines with the Lao people and to have chosen the Lao PDR as the first country to receive its vaccines. Relevant authorities of Laos and China have worked closely to ensure Covid-19 vaccines are delivered to the Lao PDR as soon as possible,” said the Chinese ambassador.
In reply, Vice President Phankham Viphavanh expressed since thanks to the Party, government and people of China for providing such medical supplies to the government and people of the Lao PDR to ensure the control and prevention efforts against covid-19 in the country.
The vice president also expressed his belief that under the clear-sighted leadership of the Party and government of China with comrade Xi Jinping as the core, the Chinese people will certainly overcome Covid-19 in the near future and restore economic and social normalcy
